Sheila Ann Sloane
December 27, 1934 - August 8, 2011
Sheila Sloane, a bright, cheerful, hard-working woman loved by all, passed away quietly on August 8th 2011 at Carson-Tahoe Regional medical center. Her family and friends would be honored by your presence at a viewing on Sunday August 14th 2011 at McFarlane Mortuary. She will be draped in a crocheted blanket of her own creation, and accompanied by two cheerful characters she knitted representing her positive approach to life. Sheila was born on December 27, 1934 in Tulare California. She graduated from Tulare High School as valedictorian, and receive her BA from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1971. She was the first female real estate appraiser for San Bernardino County, and a supervising appraiser in Big Bear Lake. She was married to John Sloane on her birthday in 1989. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1997, where they quickly became involved in the community. She was a member of the Tahoe Amateur Radio Association (TARA) and served as treasurer for the last three years. She and John provided communication assistance as members of the El Dorado county Search and Rescue team, (Tahoe Team). She was also active in the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, and was serving as president at the time of her death. In addition to her husband, John, Sheila was survived by her sister Linda Day, and sons James, Richard, Adrian, and Edward Duncan, as well as several grandchildren and cousins. Sheila achieved a great deal in her life. But her real legacy was not just her accomplishments, but the people whose lives she touched, in Tahoe and elsewhere. As a dear friend in Delaware recently said, "she has helped so many people find themselves over the years, and has lived a life of such grace and gusto." In lieu of flowers or gifts, Sheila's wish was that any donations be sent to the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, P.O. Box 17962, S. Lake Tahoe, CA 96151. PDF Printable Version
