Irma Grimes

October 11, 1927 - August 30, 2010

Irma was raised the only child of George and Clementine Vossos born on October 11, 1927 in Pittsburg Ca. Always inquisitive and bright, Irma graduated from the University of California, Berkley with a Bachelor’s degree returning to Pittsburg to teach elementary school. It was here that she met Forrest Clifford, (Cliff), Grimes, the love of her life. The couple married at Saint Theresa Catholic Church on June 30, 1957. They located in remote Strawberry just over “the hill” and fostered their only child Forrest George Grimes. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1964 as the school teacher informed Mr. Grimes that, “the boy needs to be nearer civilization now that it is time to attend school.” Irma went on to become a prominent local businesswoman operating a Hallmark card shop with Susan Northrop. “The Party House” became a community focal point in planning weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries and special occasions for residents during this wonderful partnership consisting of two good friends. A firm believer in life long learning and betterment, Irma was an active member in the South Lake Tahoe Branch of the American Association of University Women especially enjoying the Book Club. In true Tahoe spirit Irma loved the outdoors and took special pride in recently being named a Life Member of the South Tahoe Garden Club reveling in visits to local treasured places and presentations by guest speakers. She also traveled extensively eager to visit the exotic places she had studied and take in new cultures first hand. Irma is survived by her son Forrest Grimes, his wife Angel and grandchildren Katelynn and Michael. Irma enjoyed spending time with cousins Albert Quattrin and wife Belva, Norma Jean Logan and husband Paul, Lynne Fairfield and husband Jerry, Debra Furguson and husband Bud, Linda Barsanti, Cleo Raffety, Guyletha Storm and Bryan Storm. She felt blessed to spend part of each winter with Cousin Jan Barsanti and husband Darrold and for living next door to long time Tahoe resident Cousin Roger Thomas who watched over her diligently for many years extending her ability to live in the place she loved.
